Connotation As A Form Of Inference

چکیده
Story-processing systems have to deal, or avoid dealing, with INFERENCE CONTROL ''6' Ii, 13. when designing one such system 2, we were greatly helped by the "(ERC)RC" expression for connotation I. Our system is specialised in multi-faceted descriptions of characters (not, however , in the most difficult problems of beliefs about beliefs 4 and 8): here we present another aspect of the story character processing, namely the recursive EXPLANATION of inconsistencies appearing in the description of a character. We give a very schematic system overview, then some details about the CONNOTATION rules and an example of their application to a story. posed to ("fromage" RC("cheese")) RC("french"), but also situation-specific ones, as ("cheese" RC("cheese as geological stuff") RC("bizarre"), in the processing of a robot who asked what the moon is made of. As Barthes then remarks, connotations may be based on a set of initial expressions rather than on a single one, which is expressed by (EiRCl, E2RC 2 ..... EnRCn) R C This seems to be an essential feature of connotations , since it allows emphasis on 'connoted' contents by means of an accumulation of signi

ConnotationWordNet: Learning Connotation over the Word+Sense Network
We introduce ConnotationWordNet, a connotation lexicon over the network of words in conjunction with senses. We formulate the lexicon induction problem as collective inference over pairwise-Markov Random Fields, and present a loopy belief propagation algorithm for inference. The key aspect of our method is that it is the first unified approach that assigns the polarity of both wordand sense-lev...
متن کاملAccurate Inference for the Mean of the Poisson-Exponential Distribution
Although the random sum distribution has been well-studied in probability theory, inference for the mean of such distribution is very limited in the literature. In this paper, two approaches are proposed to obtain inference for the mean of the Poisson-Exponential distribution. Both proposed approaches require the log-likelihood function of the Poisson-Exponential distribution, but the exact for...
متن کاملThe Impact of Contextual Clue Selection on Inference
Linguistic information can be conveyed in the form of speech and written text, but it is the content of the message that is ultimately essential for higher-level processes in language comprehension, such as making inferences and associations between text information and knowledge about the world. Linguistically, inference is the shovel that allows receivers to dig meaning out from the text with...
متن کاملExtending the Qualitative Trajectory Calculus Based on the Concept of Accessibility of Moving Objects in the Paths
Qualitative spatial representation and reasoning are among the important capabilities in intelligent geospatial information system development. Although a large contribution to the study of moving objects has been attributed to the quantitative use and analysis of data, such calculations are ineffective when there is little inaccurate data on position and geometry or when explicitly explaining ...

The haplotype inference is one of the most important issues in the field of bioinformatics. It is because of its various applications in the diagnosis and treatment of inherited diseases such as diabetes, Alzheimer's and heart disease, which has provided a competition for researchers in presentation of mathematical models and design of algorithms to solve this problem. Despite the existence of ...
